Buyback Track Record

My buyback stock recommendations are

beating the market by more than 3 times

    . . . and that’s just the beginning

We have closed out 93 positions (as of March 31, 2008) in the Stock-Pickers Portfolio since we began publishing The Buyback Letter. Of these 93 trades 75 were profitable. The average profit for the winning trades was 89.90%, and we’re outperforming the S&P 500 by more than 200.55%!*

A major study of the stock market over a 20-year time period found that in each four-year period, value buyback stocks – buyback stocks with high book-to-market ratios) generated returns 388% higher than other stocks. The financial difference Buyback Stocks make for your bottom line is tremendous. In the last 10 years, during a raging bull market, if you had invested $10,000 in a typical S&P 500 portfolio, your investment would have grown to $67,917. That’s an excellent return, but the same $10,000 invested exclusively in value buyback stocks would have grown to $130,254. That’s nearly $70,000 more in profits, double what you received from a typical S&P 500 portfolio. And that’s just returns from an average value buyback stock portfolio. Over half have done even better, sometimes much better. Here are some stellar examples:

  • Avon Products: It was a beautiful thing when we bought it in December 2005 and sold in November 2007 for a gain of 39%
  • DST: Software wasn’t soft from this maker, bought in December 2004 and sold in November 2007 for a gain of 65%.
  • Merck: This was a healthy choice, bought in December 2004 and sold in June 2007 for a gain of 73%.
  • Berkshire Hathaway: We profited along with our hero Warren Buffet, with this stock bought in July 1998 and sold in June 2007 for a gain of 51%.
  • Rex Stores: Another healthy option, bought in July 2001 and sold in June 2007 for a gain of 48%.
  • Big Lots: Our favorite discounter was a bargain, bought in November 2006 and sold in June 2007 for a gain of 42%.
  • Intuit: It took more than intuition to buy this in December 2004 and sell in February 2007 for a gain of 42%.
  • Synopsys Inc.: Software was good to us, with a buy in June 2005 and a sell in February 2007 for a gain of 51%.
  • Yankee Candle: This flame burned bright, with a 35% gain when we sold in November 2006 after holding it for less than a year.
  • Papa Johns: We earned a tasty 102% when we sold this pizza maker stock in December 2005.
  • SkyWest: This airline flew sky high for us, with a 96% gain when we sold in November 2005.
  • Pepsi: America’s drink of choice went down smooth, with a 70% gain when we sold in June 2005.
  • Altria Group: We earned 338% when we sold it in December 2004.
  • New Plan Realty: Our subscribers saw a 93% gain when we sold in December 2004, after holding it since April 2000.
  • Stamps.com: We pocketed 74% in December 2004, after holding it for 2 ½ years.
  • Union Bank: We cashed in profits of 156% in December 2003, after holding it for 3 ¼ years.
  • Teva Pharmaceuticals: 113% was our profit from the August 2003 sale; we bought in April 2002.
  • Spartan Motors: We held this stock for less than 7 months, and sold in July 2002 for 266% profit.
  • American Express: We bought it in April 1995, and reaped 448% in gains when we sold in August 2000.
  • Tandy: Buyback Strategy followers pocketed a whopping 564% gain from Tandy. I recommended we buy it in December 1996, and we sold nearly three years later.
  • Intel: I advised clients to buy Intel in April 1995. We sold in June 1999 for a solid 324% profit.
  • AFLAC: We cashed in profits of 306% nearly 3 1/2 years after we bought it.
  • Wal-Mart: 258% profits in 2 1/2 years. In January 1996, Wal-Mart was involved in a major stock buyback and we bought it. We sold in November 1998.
  • Sky West: In April 1996, we bought Sky West. In January 1998, we sold, for a profit of 187%
  • Mellon Bank: In July 1995, Mellon had a major stock buyback and we bought. In September 1998, we cashed in profits of 173%.

Every issue of the Buyback Letter has buyback stocks like these with the potential to double or triple your investment within a few years.
